About Interdependence We all depend on others. No matter how independent we feel or think we are, our food, clothes, houses, utensils, tools, cars are the product of countless others whom we never see. Beyond human efforts, we depend on the natural world to provide us with food and materials for both our comfort and our very existence. This is what it means to be interdependent. From His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Peace is not something which exists independently of us, nor is war. The political leaders, policymakers and army generals who have responsibilities with respect to peace are members of our own human family, the society that we as individuals have helped create. Peace in the world thus depends on peace in the hearts of individuals. I am therefore happy to support the one-day event of education about what helps resolve conflict called "Interdependence Day".
His Holiness the Dalai Lama
The lives of all citizens of the world improve through good relations with neighbors. Just as the wall of China could not, we cannot keep the world, danger or difference out. Awareness of our Interdependence coupled with sustainable communication can help build a more humane and viable future. |
